Synopsis
So, we have finally reached Christmas Eve with hours to go before the big day. Despite this, slight changes have occurred on the forecast yet again. Firstly, for the majority a very sunny albeit very very cold Christmas day continues to be expected with widespread sunshine with stubborn mist and freezing fog patches in places. Temperatures will be EXCEPTIONALLY low in places, perhaps breaking some local records. Widespread minimums of -5 to -12c however in some Central areas especially the West Midlands and parts of Wales in the countryside may see temperatures drop to -15c to -20c with -8 to -15c widely otherwise in these areas. After a very severe frost these places will also enjoy plenty of sunshine amongst the snow. An area of snow, possibly heavy will move into the Western Highlands throughout the day, giving a few cm possibly more before moving into the Central belt of Scotland and weakening. A few flurries may reach the far North of England. Otherwise a low to locally moderate risk of a few light snow flurries on the East coast throughout the day and perhaps the Northern Isles may see a few light snow showers too. A low risk of a flurry for Pembrokeshire in addition. In summary, dry, sunny and bitterly cold for many after a severe frost. Snow for parts of the Highlands and Central belt of Scotland. A low risk of flurries on the East coast.
